The din sin

I have lived in Mumbai over 20 years now , but suddenly I cannot stand the noise that she unwillingly resonates everyday.

i. As my day is not ready to start, she wakes me with the loud incessant bark of my society dog.He screams till I irately say "what's wrong dude.Just shut up, will you?" where are all the hens? are they better?

ii. Then as I am struggling to sleep, the bell keeps ringing. The milkman, The newspaperwala and the likes. "Mom why don't they just drop them along the door?" They get stolen" she says. Was there really a time when doors were kept unlocked?

iii. And then the bus ride. There is one thing i love about mumbai roads...the honking...i just love it .The drivers in Mumbai just honk as if it is nobody's business. Once had an arguement with a conductor to warn his driver to stop using the horn without reason or i'd complain.Don't know where I would have complained though. Another victim taxi driver said that they required to do it because of the way everyone drives, rides or crosses!!!

iv.Sometimes I wonder why people also need to raise their voices so much when they talk to each other...in a civlization era , are we???
The blaring ringtones..caller tunes. Everyone wants to hear their own music here.
To evade the noises I arm myself with F.M or Ipod only to infect myself with another clamor.

And as I go to sleep with the sound of the skidding vehicles and the orphan horns on the juxtaposed flyover across my house......... I pray "Mumbai, sleep, will you!"
She wickedly smirks at me and continues her noisy crusade.

As if the screaming memories weren't enough!!

Who you?

Time and again
I meet them,
Intruders into my space, my freedom
Sometimes friends and sometimes others
They invade my personality.

I live my way,
And I am what I am,
There is me in everything I do,
But me is me and you is you.

I seldom judge of who you are,
Why judge me of my actions?
I am kinda quirky and kind of straight
But my friend, I am not on rebate.

Whoever said there is a right way to live,
I am no perfect or wannabe
Have you heard of idiosyncrasy?
Of modesty or diplomacy.

I want to believe what I do
They might be illusions, but they are mine
You stand by yours
And let me wallow in mine.

I ain’t competing here
I am completing my dreams here
Let me be,
Live our own lives, will we?

Thrill Gauran”****in”teed: The Departed.

May be it is the dearth of good Hollywood thrillers these days that makes “The Departed” a truly enjoyable movie. But it keeps you at the edge of your seat and sometimes even makes you want to jump out of it. With an enviable star cast and stellar performances, the characters make the movie not the regular “police and crime” drama. Though the movie wallows itself in a crusade of invectives, it captures the parallel insanity of the enforcers of law and perpetuators of crime. It is a “find the rat and kill it” case. Of course the rats are many and so are the kills.

“The Departed” revolves around the Irish American Mob gang in Boston which is controlled by the madman Costello (Jack Nicholson). The Police forces of Boston are all out to obliterate this organized group of criminals. Emerges the stories of two young policemen, each trying to conceal a stark and contrasted personality beneath. While Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) finds himself accepting to take on as an undercover police agent in a diabolic mob gang, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) brazenly evades and leaks futile police attempts to his Godfather Costello.
It is a story of Betrayals and killing Loyalty, a fallen romance and sparked passion, some dark truths and heavy lies.

The performances hit you on the face. Jack Nicholson is at his diabolic and lewd best. Though I am a Matt Damon fan, this movie was a winner for DiCaprio who finally emerges as a virile and mature actor as he beautifully portrays the tirade of emotional angst. Matt Damon, I believe lost out on characterization of his role but as usual gives more than his 100 percent. The cameos played by Martin Sheen (Captain Queenan) and Mark Wahlberg (Sgt. Dignam) are worth a mention and more. Vera Farmiga as the shrink for the policemen adds the feminine life to the male movie but her role loses way in the end.

I hear that Martin Scorsese did a poor imitation of a Hong Kong movie, but for a person who hasn’t seen the “Infernal Affairs” this movie is a total captivation. If you can sit through the innumerable ****s and other vituperations in the movie, you will love some of the witty dialogues and Costello’s bad mouth. I shall never forget how the movie began “I don’t want to be a product of my environment, I want my environment to be a product of me”. Atleast one Oscar please!

I‘d say “Don’t miss it”.
